CHARLES S. DUTTON BIOGRAPHY

Actor and director. The teenage years spent in Baltimore were quite difficult for Charles who, after moving from one reform school to another, ends up in jail at the age of 17 for killing a man in a fight. He tries acting during his eight years in prison and, once out, is determined to change his life. After graduating from Towson State University, he is admitted to Yale University acting courses. He made his Broadway debut with Wilson’s “Mr Rainey’s Black Bottom,” which earned him a Tony Award nomination. After other successful theatrical performances, he switched to television, starring in some episodes of the serial “Miami Vice” (1984) and “Roc” (1991) – of which he is also an executive producer – which made him famous to the general public. The debut on the big screen takes place in 1985 with “The cat’s eye”, inspired by some short stories by Stephen King. In 1998 he played “Mr Crocodile Dundee” and the following year he starred alongside Robert De Niro in “Jacknife – Jack the knife”. 1989 is also the year of marriage for Charles, who marries actress Debbi Morgan. In the nineties he becomes a very popular actor: he plays, among others in “Third Degree” (1990), “Alien 3” (1992), “In the concrete jungle” (1993), “Minuti counted” (1995), ” Time to Kill “(1996),” Mimic “(1997) and” Coockie’s Luck “(1999). Throughout the decade he devoted himself simultaneously to television, participating in successful serials in the United States, including “Laurel Avenue” (1993), broadcast on HBO and “Piano Lesson” (1995) for which he won a Golden Globe. In 2000 he obtained the Black Reel Award for directing the mini TV series “The Corner”. In 2003 he returned to the big screen with two thrillers, “Gothica” by Mathieu Kassovitz and “Secret Window” by David Koepp.
