BIOGRAPHY OF DAVIDE FERRARIO
Director, screenwriter and writer. He graduated from the University of Milan in American literature and already during his studies began to deal with cinema as a critic and essayist. At the same time he started the activity of distributor for the cooperative ‘Laboratorio 80’ of Bergamo which makes the works of Fassbinder, Wenders, Wajda and other valuable directors tour Italy. He also tries his hand as an agent for some American directors such as Jim Jarmusch and John Sayles. In 1985 he wrote the screenplay for Attilio Concari’s “45th parallel” (1985) while his directorial debut film is “La fine della notte” which came out in 1990 and is considered the “best independent film of the season”. Prolific author and director writes and directs feature films, documentaries, fictional shorts, works for television, which are present at various international festivals such as Berlin, Locarno, Sundance, Toronto, Venice and which he realizes with his production house which he successfully directs . His ‘After Midnight’, made on a very low budget, had a great response from the public and was sold in many countries. Ferrario is also known for his political commitment: in 2001 he shoots a detailed reconstruction of the days of the G8: “The streets of Genoa”. In 2002, with an ironic interview with Tarricone, he contributed to the Bergamo mobilization against video surveillance. For television he worked with Marco Paolini. He also wrote screenplays for other directors, for Daniele Segre “Occhi che videro” in 1988 and “Manila paloma bianca” in 1992. For Anna Negri, in 1998 “In the beginning there were the underpants”. In 1995 he also wrote the novel “Dissolvenza al nero” which won the Hemingway Award, was translated into many languages and in 2006 was brought to the screen by Oliver Parker with the title “Fade to Black”.
