Alyson Stoner spoke about her traumatic experience with LGBTQ conversion therapy.
On Wednesday, June 30, Insider posted an interview with the Camp Rock alum to promote his new book, “Mind Body Pride.”
The Cheaper by the Dozen actress told the outlet that she now identifies as pansexual. It was when she first fell in love with a woman that her religion and her sexuality came into conflict. She then admitted to an outpatient form of conversion therapy.
Stoner said it was still “legitimately difficult” to discuss his experience. She said her legs were shaking at the thought of reliving that time.
“I know how dangerous it is for me as a person who has had access to therapy and other forms of support,” she said. “And I always wondered if my life was worth living or, if all was not right with me, then what good was it for me to be there, starting to think of myself as someone who didn’t. was only harming others in society. “
Stoner added that the therapy had caused her to view her body as “ashamed, you must not trust.” In turn, the removal of this part of herself prevented her from maintaining relationships with herself and with others. She now realizes that sexuality is natural.
Stoner noted that therapy can make people feel like they don’t belong or be ashamed and even lead them to suicide.
“The dangers are measurable. They are measurable. Even if someone comes out on the other side and says, ‘Hey, no, I’m living a good life,’ there are scars there. There are shadows, “she admitted.” So yeah, I’m not yet able to go back and tell details, which is an indicator of how difficult this chapter is for me. “
