BIOGRAPHY OF AMOS GITAÏ
Film director. The father, Munio Weinraub, is one of the architects of the Bauhaus, while the mother, Efradia, is a theological scholar. Later his father, when he left Berlin in 1935, changed his European surname to Gitaï. Amos follows in his father’s footsteps and studies architecture at the Israel Institute of Technology. During the Yom Kippur war he joined the air rescue corps and films the war with a Superotto. After moving to the United States, he completed his studies in architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, obtaining a PhD, and at the same time made documentaries all over the world. Since 1977 he has made documentaries for Israeli TV: two of his works, “Political Myths” and “House”, are censored while another, “Field Diary”, shot in Lebanon, arouses much controversy. He moves to Paris and continues his work as a documentary maker. After his return to Israel in 1993, he directed a dozen films on the ancient and recent history of Israel. With “The inventory”, “Day by day – Yom Yom” and “Kadosh” he creates a trilogy on the state of the places in his country through the portrayal of the main Israeli cities. In 2000 he directed the war film “Kippur”.
