Angelina Jolie has revealed that her divorce from Brad Pitt made it harder for her to make movies.
Jolie spoke with Entertainment Weekly to promote their upcoming survival thriller, Those Who Wish Me Death. During the conversation, she opened up about her love for directing and the fact that she can’t take on as many directorial roles as she would like due to her divorce and complicated family situation.
“I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that didn’t allow me to perform for a few years,” she told the outlet. “I just needed to do shorter jobs and be more at home, so I went back to some acting jobs. It’s really the truth.”
Jolie and Pitt filed for divorce in 2016. They were officially declared legally separated in April 2019. Legal proceedings regarding the custody of their six children and the division of their property are still ongoing.
Jolie filed for divorce after claiming that while Pitt was intoxicated he assaulted their son Maddox while he was aboard their private jet. Last month, she filed a court document that formally charged him with domestic violence after he was cleared by the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services in November 2016. Jolie’s team asserted that she was prepared to offer “evidence and authority to support” the allegation.
“Maddox has already testified as [an] adult in the ongoing custody dispute and that was not very flattering for Brad, “an insider told Us Weekly.” He does not use Pitt as a last name on documents that are not legal and uses to Jolie place. Maddox legally wants to change her last name to Jolie, which Angelina said she does not support. “
A source said OK! Magazine that Pitt’s relationship with Maddox and Pax is “rocky.”
“He [Pitt] knows he’s facing an uphill battle with them because they were old enough to understand that things were terribly wrong between him and Angie when their marriage ended, ”the source said.
