BIOGRAPHY OF BEN MENDELSOHN

Paul Benjamin, known simply as Ben Mendelsohn, is an Australian actor born in Melbourne on April 3, 1969. Raised between Europe and America due to his parents’ divorce, Ben returns to his hometown to attend high school at Banyule High School, where he began to get passionate about acting thanks to the attendance of various theater courses.

After the television ranks, which sees him take part in some Australian series such as Special Squad (1984), A Country Practice (1985) and The Henderson Kids (1985), Mendelsohn made his film debut in 1987 with the drama The Year My Voice Broke, which earned him critical acclaim and the Best Supporting Actor award at the Australian Film Institute Awards. In 1990, he plays the cowboy O’Flynn in the movie Simon Wincer Quigley carbine, while in 1994 he starred alongside Hug Grant in Sirens, the film by John Duigan.

In 2012 he acted alongside Brad Pitt in the thriller Cogan – Killing Them Softly, directed by Andrew Dominik, while the following year he was in the cast of the film Derek Cianfrance Like a thunder (2013), focusing on the life of rebel motorcycle racer Luke (Ryan Goslin), whose life is turned upside down by the sudden birth of a child. In the same year, he gets the part in two dramatic films: Two Mothers(2013), directed by Anne Fontaine, is The Rebel – Starred Up, instead signed by the director David Mackenzie. In 2014, two years after the film that concludes the Batman trilogy, he still acts alongside Christian Bale in Exodus – Gods and kings, the film by Ridley Scott who faces the Exodus of the Jewish people while fleeing the slavery of Egypt.

In 2015, the now established Mendelsohn joins the cast of the dark-toned Netflix series Bloodline, whose extraordinary portrayal of Danny, the black sheep of the Rayburn family who returns home to reveal dark secrets, earned him the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Also in 2016, the Hollywood star takes on the role of Orson Krennic, ruthless imperial director who oversees the construction of the Death Star, in the film by Gareth Edwards Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first official spin-off set in the world of Star Wars and a role that, as he himself stated, allowed him to realize a childhood dream.

In 2018, he obtained important assignments in three highly successful films. In the reboot of Robin Hood signed by Otto Bathurse, the actor takes on the role of the terrible Sheriff of Nottingham, the main antagonist of the Sherwood archer; in Ready Player One, the film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline, Ben plays Nolan Sorrento, the main antagonist at the head of the unscrupulous company “Innovative Online Industries”. Finally, in the dramatic comedy The second life of Anders Hilldirected by Nicole Holofcener, Mendelsohn plays the role of absolute protagonist by stepping into the role of Anders Hill, a financial advisor on the threshold of 60 who suddenly decides to change his life.

In 2019 he falls back into a part that is not new to him: that of the villain. He plays, in fact, the “villain” Talos, the bloodthirsty leader of a group of aliens called skrulls and sent to earth to conquer it, in Captain Marvel, the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and directed by Anna Boden is Ryan Fleck.
