BIOGRAPHY OF CORNELIA FROBOESS
Actress and singer. Child prodigy, daughter of the composer Gerhard Froboess, from an early age she played the piano but above all she sang and soon achieved success performing live or on radio programs, alongside some of the biggest names in the German show business of the time. Already in 1953 he also appeared on the big screen (uncredited) in the film “Sündige Grenze” by Robert A. Stemmle. Between the 1950s and 1960s, having become an idol of German teenagers, the ‘Berliner Göre’ (as she is nicknamed for her typical Berlin teenager appearance) starred in about twenty Teutonic ‘musicians’ (including “Vacanze ad Honolulu “, 1959) alongside colleagues Peter Kraus, Rex Gildo and Peter Alexander. In Italy In 1968 she won the Ernst Lubitsch Award (the award given by German film critics) for the role of Claire in the film “Rheinsberg” (adaptation of the bestseller “Rheinsberg Castle. Illustrated book for lovers” by the poet and writer Kurt Tucholsky , directed in 1967 by Kurt Hoffmann). She later devoted herself a great deal to television and theater – she staged several shows, including a version of “My Fair Lady” – and also became a member of the Münchner Kammerspielensembles and the Berlin Academy of Arts. In 1982, Rainer Werner Fassbinder chose her for the role of Henriette in his “Veronika Voss” (Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival). In his 40-year career he has received several awards, especially at home and not only for his musical merits, including the ‘Order of Merit of Germany’. Since 1967 she has been married to Professor Hellmuth Matiasek with whom she had daughter Agnes and son Kasper. In 2010 she was called to be part of the jury of the 60th edition of the Berlinale.
