BIOGRAPHY OF DANE DEHAAN
Dane William DeHaan was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on February 6, 1986 and has been interested in acting since he was a boy. He first attended Emmaus High School and then the University of North Carolina School of Arts, from which he left in 2008. His debut as an actor took place on the stage tables, when he replaced Haley Joel Osment in the play “American Buffalo”. He thus stands out in the off-Broadway show “The Aliens” (which earned him an Obie Award) and finally landed on television, appearing in an episode of Law & Order – Special Victims Unit and playing the gay teenager Jesse D’Amato in the third season of In Treatment. This latest series is broadcast in 2010, which for ours is the year of the debut in front of the camera: the film is the war drama Amigo of the independent John Sayles and the role is small, but it still makes up for Dane a first step towards fame, which will arrive in 2012 with Chronicle, the story of three boys who discover they have special powers. In the directorial debut of Josh Trank DeHaan he is the most problematic of the young protagonists and his performance is definitely appreciated. Almost simultaneously the actor is directed by John Hillcoat in Lawless and is lucky enough to work with Steven Spielberg, which in Lincoln offers him the part of a soldier.
Far more consistent is its presence in Like a thunder. For his third work, in fact, Derek Cianfrance entrusts him with the character of the problematic son of Luke Glanton of Ryan Gosling, letting him lead the second part of the film as well. In 2013 Dane DeHaan makes a further career advancement by captaining the cast, along with Daniel Radcliffe, of Young Rebels, in which it is Lucien Carr, prominent personality of the Beat Generation and killer of David Kammerer.
Also in 2013 Dane reads in Devil’s Knot – Until proven otherwise and in the unusual Metallica Through The Never, which alternates sequences of a heavy metal band concert with the surreal story of a boy named Trip. Shortly thereafter the actor links his name to mainstream and more commercial cinema thanks to The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Power of Electro. In the cinecomic Marc Webb he wants him to impersonate Harry Osborne: DeHann gladly accepts the proposal and creates an excellent villain. The zombie comedy follows After Beth – Love at any cost and the far more significant Life, where the character in which Dane DeHaan must descend is nothing less than James Dean, told in a very important moment of his short life: the year of the meeting with the photographer Dennis Stock (interpreted by Robert Pattinson).
Voice of Victor in the animated film Dancer, the actor was chosen by Gore Verbinski as the protagonist of the thriller The cure from well-being and to make you fall in love Alicia Vikander in the costume film scripted by Tom Stoppard Tulip Fever. Dane finally, he is the special agent of the government of human territories Valerian in science fiction Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets of Luc Besson.
