Daniel Kaluuya turned heads in tonight’s Oscar win (April 25), but not because he took home the award for Best Supporting Actor.
As everyone at the awards show and on the web celebrated the victory, social media caught on fire after the British actor paid an unconventional tribute to his parents.
“My mom met my dad, they made love. It’s amazing!” Kaluuya joked during his Oscar acceptance speech.
Everyone at Union Station in Los Angeles laughed – but this hilarious, blunt anecdote also caused his mom and sister, who were his dates for the evening, to have very different reactions. As her sister buried her face in her hands, her mother looked confused and even said into her mouth, “What did he say?
In the press room, Kaluuya stuck to her statement and said with a laugh, “I think it’s pretty obvious that all of our parents have had sex.”
He added, “Yeah, my mom is probably going to text me. But here we are, right?”
Comedian, writer and producer Sean O’Connor also noted that “Daniel Kaluuya is the first SKINS actor to win an Oscar.”

With her Oscar win, Kaluuya officially took home all of the top Supporting Actors awards this year for her role in Judas and the Dark Messiah. In the film, Kaluuya plays the late Fred Hampton, who was the chairman of the Illinois branch of the Black Panther Party in the 1960s.
