BIOGRAPHY OF ELLIE GOULDING

Ellie Goulding was born and raised in Lyonshall, a small village near Kington, Herefordshire, the second of four children (a brother and two sisters). His mother, Tracey Clark, worked in a supermarket, and his father, Arthur Goulding, came from a family that had always worked in the funeral home. Her parents separated when she was five, and her mother remarried a truck driver. He started playing the clarinet at the age of nine, and at 14 he started playing the guitar. He attended the Lady Hawkins’School in Kington, where he played an important part in a school production, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, as a scarecrow. He started writing songs at the age of 15 and won a singing contest while in college. After starting a drama, a political and an English course at the University of Kent, where she was passionate about electronic music, she developed her sound on the track Wish I Stayed with the help of Starsmith and Frankmusik. Starsmith became his chief collaborator and Lights’ first producer. After two years at university, he took a year off to take his singing career seriously and moved to West London.
