Is Caitlyn Jenner considering running for governor of California?
On Tuesday April 6, it was reported Jenner would be joining a rare fall recall election. A recall election is where voters can remove an elected official before the end of the governor’s term.
Governor Gavin Newsom will most likely face recall election later this year due to his mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic under an emergency order. Although Newsom did not handle the situation well at first, he has since helped establish COVID-19 vaccination sites. In turn, an updated poll shows that only 40% of California residents would support a recall.
Axios reported that Caroline Wren, who worked for former President Donald Trump’s fundraising campaign, Trump Victory, would help Jenner’s potential run. In addition to her fundraising, she was also the organizer of the Trump rally that took place before the Capitol riot on January 6.
Jenner and Wren met through their support of the American Unity Fund, a GOP nonprofit that focuses on LGBTQ + rights and issues.
Jenner will essentially try to repeat Arnold Schwarzenegger’s run for governor. GOP Schwarzenegger defeated former Democratic Governor of California Gray Davis in 2003. The recall election was held due to Davis’ lack of leadership and mismanagement of taxpayer dollars.
