BIOGRAPHY OF IVAN FRANEK
Actor. Sometimes also known as Ivan Franeck. A great football fan, as a boy he joined the junior national team of his country. In the same period his older brother starts acting in a theater company in Pilsen, where he also introduces Ivan, who ends up falling in love with the profession of actor and abandoning football. Since a diploma is required to be admitted to an acting school, he enrolled in an industrial technical institute and worked for a year as a welder in a factory. After graduating, he is admitted to the Higher School of Theater and Marionette in Prague, where for four years he studies acting, poetry, dance, singing, history of theater and sculpture, as well as learning the expressive techniques of puppet theater. In 1989 he moved to Paris, where he met Jean-Pierre Lescot, who proposed him a collaboration with his ‘Théâtre d’Ombres et de Marionnettes’. Initially Franek limited himself to making puppets because, not knowing French, he could not act, but at the end of the tour, which lasted more than a year, he became one of the actors of the company in all respects. In this period he married Claire, an illustrator of children’s books with whom he had two children, from whom he separated in 1998. He worked with Lescot and his theater for ten years, touring all over France with shows for children and adults. and also with mixed representations of actors and puppets (such as ‘Day of a dreamer’, by the Argentine author Copi). In 1996 he was chosen for the TV film ‘Si je t’oublie Sarajevo’ by Arnaud Selignac, the first shot in Sarajevo after the war; the following years he alternated his work in the theater with appearances on television. In 2001 Coline Serreau chooses him for the role of Touki in ‘Chaos’, which marks his film debut. Among the other protagonist interpretations we remember that of Tobias Horvat in ‘Burning in the wind’ by Silvio Soldini (2002).
