Ivanka Trump has all year, all month, all week, all day. It seems she can’t last two minutes before damning new information is revealed about her actions during her father’s presidency and beyond. And all things considered, this new element is pretty bad.
Mother Jones investigated Ivanka’s sworn testimony during an inquest as to whether or not she was “involved in the planning process [Donald Trump’s] inauguration. “She replied,” I really had no involvement. “
Well, it turns out that she was an integral part of the decision-making process, including logistics, menus, etc. And while we already knew that was the case, the new report seals the deal.
So… why is this important?
Aside from the fact that she almost certainly lied under oath, controversy still hangs over the nomination. We get it – with the amount of dirt on the trumps, it’s almost impossible to keep all of that in mind.
The investigation was initiated by Karl Racine, the attorney general for Washington, DC. He claims that the campaign’s inauguration committee embezzled charitable funds in order to personally enrich his family members. “The groundbreaking committee, a nonprofit, coordinated with the Trump family to overpay for event space at the Trump International Hotel,” Racine’s lawsuit claims. “The Committee also misused nonprofit funds to organize a private party [at the Trump Hotel] for the Trump family costing several hundred thousand dollars.
As Mother Jones put it so well, “the attorney general accused the Trump gang of major fraud.” This shoe seems to fit.
By MJ:
An email chain shows that Ivanka Trump was directly involved in the planning of at least one proposed event for the inauguration. On November 29, 2016, Rick Gates, then vice-chair of the Presidential Inauguration Committee (known as PIC), emailed him the current schedule of inauguration events. He noted that Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a senior producer working with PIC, “is going to call you to discuss some additional ideas she has on other events that we would like to see if you would be willing to do based on our. meetings. Ivanka replied to Gates and Winston Wolkoff, “Awesome. I’m looping my assistant Suzie who can coordinate a moment to hook us up.”
Days later, Wolkoff sent an email thanking Ivanka and Jered for the reunion they had, and presented the couple with a “high-level summary” of the plans “for … consideration.” And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
In her own deposition in the inauguration scandal case, Winston Wolkoff said she worried “it would look [that] members of the Trump family, the Trump Organization or the Trump Hotel benefited financially from the inauguration. During this deposition, he was asked if he found it “improper” that Ivanka Trump was “sometimes involved in decision-making regarding some of the events that formed part of the inaugural festivities.” She replied, “I think it was questioned… It was out of the ordinary.”
Good luck bouncing off this one, gurl…
