JOHN FRANKENHEIMER BIOGRAPHY
Film director. He attended La salle Military Academy, continuing his studies at Williams College. During his military service in the aviation he made several documentaries. In 1953 he was hired at CBS as an assistant director, quickly moving to the direction of mini TV series. In the cinema he made his debut in 1956 with “The young stranger” which is performed in 1961 “The young savages” and “The man from Alcatraz” (Birdman of Alcatraz, 1962) which obtained four Oscar nominations. Between the sixties and eighties he made several films – from “Gran Prix” (1966) to “The Man from Kiev” (The Fixer, 1968) to “52 play or die” (52 Pick-up, 1986) – which highlighted its metocolosity. After a brief period on TV, in 1996 he directed Marlon Brando in “The Island of Dr. Moreau”. Frankenheimer is also known for filming all of the campaign films for Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. He died at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from complications after spinal surgery.
