BIOGRAPHY OF KAREN GILLAN
Karen Gillan was born on November 28, 1987 in Inverness, Scotland. Her interest in acting was born at an early age, thanks also to school productions and lessons, which allow her to soon join some local theater groups. At the age of sixteen he moved to Edinburgh to continue his acting studies at Edinburgh’s Telford College and after two years he moved to London to attend the Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts. While in the English capital, she was hired by a modeling agency, which in 2007 allows her to go as far as London Fashion Week. Although it has given her excellent visibility, the catwalk is not among her thoughts for the future and she soon returns to focus on acting. The first roles that are assigned to her are participations as guest-star for some British television series, in fact, she makes her debut in the third season of Rebus (2006).
Among the first engagements, the most decisive one was in The Kevin Bishop Show (2008), a series of sketches that see her parody different characters from the entertainment world, including Katy Perry is Angelina Jolie. The role, however, that launched it is that of Amy Pond, the Doctor’s companion in the fifth season of Doctor Who (2010), although the actress appeared briefly already in the fourth. The character of Amy Pond, in addition to appearing also in the sixth and seventh seasons of the series, earns her a Young Scot Award. Meanwhile also comes the film debut, a small part as a young girl at the bus station in New Town Killers (2008). The supernatural thriller follows Outcast (2010) and his first starring film, the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending (2013). It was the following years that definitively consecrated it. On the television front first enters the third season of the series NTSF: SD: SUV :: (2013) and then receives the main part in Selfie (2014); on the cinematographic side, however, it is in horror Oculus – The reflection of evil (2013), with which she won an Empire Award for Best Female Debut. Award that she wins again in 2015 when she plays the role of one of the characters that will remain sewn on her most, as well as the one who gave her world fame, with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), where it is Nebula, superhero antagonist and devoted daughter of Titan Thanos.
Later he worked on the set with great performers in the Oscar nominated film The big bet (2015), where he supports Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling is Brad Pitt, and collects a western in his acting resume with In the valley of violence (2016) of Ti West. 2017 is a busy year for the Scottish girl, who first returns to play Nebula – this time as a member of the Guardians – in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, then shares the scene with Tom Hanks ed Emma Watson in the sci-fi thriller The Circle and, finally, he is the character of the attractive killer Ruby Roundhouse in the video game of Jumanji – Welcome to the jungle. The role that, however, Gillan returns to cover more often is precisely that of Nebula, with whom she also appears in the Marvel crossover. Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
