BIOGRAPHY OF KELLY MACDONALD
Kelly Macdonald is a Scottish actress born in Glasgow on February 26, 1976, but raised in Aberdeen after her parents’ divorce. Yet it is Glasgow that marks his fortune at not even 19 years old; in fact, while working here as a bartender he catches a glimpse of a flyer regarding a casting and that’s how he received the part of the seductive minor Diane, female protagonist of the cult Trainspotting (1996) of Danny Boyle. Macdonald immerse herself in the dual nature of Diane beautifully, delivering her adolescent and more seductive side to the public and becoming together with Renton’s Ewan McGregor and to the other skagboys one of the emblems of the subculture of the 90s. The notoriety achieved by the film immediately launched her in the world of cinema and, after some minor films, the actress began to get noticed with small roles in large productions, such as that of the noblewoman Lettice Knollys in Elizabeth (1998), love rival of Queen Elizabeth herself (Cate Blanchett). The vintage dress seems to give her face of particular beauty and maintaining the short cut with which everyone had known her for Diane, she plays the role of a maid in the yellow of Robert Altman Gosford Park (2001) alongside British film stars such as Maggie Smithis Kristin Scott Thomas. In 2003 he is the protagonist together with the Irish Colin Farrell is Cillian Murphy of Intermission, dramatic comedy with multiple intertwined plots. In the next two years he participates in two major Anglo-American productions, he is an androgynous Peter Pan in Neverland – A dream for life (2004) and sweet maid Evangeline in Nanny McPhee – Nanny Matilda (2005). The first major film of American production and therefore the affirmation also in a fully overseas cinema arrives in 2006 with It is not a country for old people of Joel ed Ethan Coen, where the actress plays Josh Brolin’s wife, a role for which she was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2011 a double confirmation of his abilities, timidly entered the world of cinema with that barely hinted smile of his Kelly Macdonald not only receives the part of the Gray Lady in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, but also a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series for starring in Boardwalk Empire – The Empire of Crime in the part of Margaret Thompson. The following year the girl from Glasgow struggles with dubbing in a Disney animated film that brings her back to her homeland, Rebel – The Brave (2012), where he lends his voice to the protagonist, the red and curly Scottish princess Merida. 2012, however, is also the year in which she returns to wear the wide period dresses that so much give her next to Keira Knightley in Tolstojan Anna Karenina of Joe Wright, where is Dolly, the betrayed sister-in-law of the protagonist. After participating in an episode of the third season of the famous TV series Black Mirror, returns to take on the role, this time more professional, of the character who made her famous: she is again directed by Boyle together with her companions at the beginning of the adventure Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle ed Ewen Bremner in T2 Trainspotting, sequel to the ’96 cult movie. Diane’s is not the only return of her career, after having taken part in a film about a housekeeper (Tata Matilda) and having dressed more than once twentieth-century dresses, in 2017 she is in the cast of Meet Christopher Robin as Olive, the little protagonist’s nanny, treading the stage alongside Domhnall Gleeson is Margot Robbie.
