Lil Nas X released their highly anticipated new single “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” on Friday.

It was accompanied by a lavish video that racked up over 25 million views on YouTube and plunged some conservatives and right-wing evangelicals into collapse: mainly because the gay rapper slips on a pole in hell and gives Satan a lapdance.

However, among those who gave him their blessing was his father. The rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, shared a text message he received from his father.

“Very creative video,” his father began diplomatically. “I got over it ?? Congratulations. Live life on your terms. Very proud of you. “

In 2019, Lil Nas X said that introducing himself to his father and mother as gay was “nerve-racking” and comparable to ripping off a band-aid.

He later said that his coming out was a “shock” to his father but that it finally brought them closer together because he had nothing more to hide. He spoke about having a more difficult relationship with his mother because she has addiction issues.

Besides her father’s reaction, the Lil Nas X video has garnered hundreds of thousands of comments online. Some evangelicals blasted the interpreter and accused him of Satanism. Lil Nax X took it all in his stride and suggested that he was very used to receiving hatred from so-called Christians.

On Saturday, in a tweet that had over 400,000 likes, he explained, “I spent all of my teenage years hating myself because of the shit you preach that would happen to me because I was gay. so I hope you are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger that you teach us to have towards ourselves.

To accompany the video, fans can purchase a limited edition Nike sneaker (limited to 666 pairs), with a pentangle pin on the front. Again, this was met with accusations of devil worship.

The rapper posted an arched video that promised an apology but actually doubled down.

The sneakers, in particular, drew criticism from Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.

Posting a tweet with images of the sneakers on Twitter, Noem said, “Our kids are being told that this type of product is not only okay, but ‘exclusive’. But do you know what is more exclusive? Their eternal soul given by God. We are fighting for the soul of our nation. We have to fight hard. And we have to fight smart. We have to win. “

Lil Nas X told her to stop tweeting about the shoes and get on with her job.

Yesterday, right-wing pastor Greg Locke was among those who attacked the artist for his latest work. Locke called it a “bunch of Satanism, wickedness, diabolism, demonism, psychotic wickedness.”

Lil Nas X was so impressed with the rant that he said he intended to taste it.
