List of guests at Prince Philip’s funeral revealed

Buckingham Palace has revealed the 30 guests who will attend Prince Philip’s funeral.

On Thursday April 15, royal officials revealed who will be on the limited guest list for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral service. The funeral will be on Saturday, April 17 at 10 a.m.ET at Saint George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Despite the reduction in the funeral, the palace spokesman said the service would “reflect the Duke’s military affiliations and personal elements in His Royal Highness’s life.”

The outdoor parade will feature 700 members of the armed forces from branches of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army and Royal Air Force. Before the open air procession, there will be a private procession for the royal family. Prince Philip’s coffin will be transported by a custom Land Rover to the chapel.

Prince William, Prince Harry and their father, Charles, will walk behind Philip’s coffin. Edward and Andrew will walk behind them with their cousin, Peter Philips. Behind the group of men, Princess Anne’s husband, Vice-Admiral Tim Laurence, and the Earl of Snowdon will be in tow.

Queen Elizabeth II will not be present for the private procession but will wait outside the chapel for the arrival of Philip’s body.

Inside, a four-person choir will provide music for the service. Members, who were hand-selected by Philip before his death, will be removed from the guests in attendance. Unfortunately, official public health guidelines prohibit congregational singing, which means that none of the guests will be able to sing along with religious music.

The funeral will break with tradition as members of the royal family will not wear their military uniforms. This seems helpful, as Harry’s royal outing means he won’t be allowed to don his old military uniform.

Harry’s wife Meghan Markle will not be attending as she has not been cleared by her doctor to fly abroad so late in her pregnancy. Harry and Meghan are expecting their second child, a baby girl, this summer.
