Lorde spoke about her musical beginnings compared to Billie Eilish’s beginnings in the music industry.
On Friday June 18, the “Solar Power” singer spoke to BBC Radio to promote her comeback single. The host spoke of the different parallels she sees between Lorde and the performer of “My Future”.
“We only sent a few small messages when she was very young,” Lorde revealed. “She’s so, so sweet. There are only a handful of people who understand what it’s like to be a teenager and to have that level of scrutiny of your body and your brain. “
Eilish’s first single “Ocean Eyes” was released when she was just fourteen, while Lorde’s hit hit “Royals” debuted when she was seventeen. The two quickly rose to fame and were reassured by their families while navigating a difficult lifestyle and career.
“Obviously, she’s pretty close to her family, just like me, which I think is really helpful at this age when your world is changing,” she added. “Yeah, I mean the music is great. It just does such a good job.”
Lorde previously supported Eilish early in his career, in 2018. Lorde praised his portrayal of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” on his social media accounts.
That same year, Eilish revealed to JenesaisPop that she had spoken with Lorde and that she was a huge fan of his music.
“About the collaboration, we never talk about it, I don’t know,” Eilish said in response to the idea of working together in the future. She later added, “It’s nice to befriend people I idolize, it’s kinda crazy for me.”
