Everyone laughs at Madison Cawthorn after trying to educate fellow Democrats about the importance of facts yesterday, but then got it wrong on one of the most basic facts in her speech.
The embarrassing moment came as Cawthorn spoke in the House during a debate on whether to repeal Donald Trump’s “real lender” rule through the Congressional Review Act.
In an attempt to look like a real-life statesman, the 25-year-old Nazi enthusiast quoted Thomas Jefferson.
“It is Thomas Jefferson who [sic] says: “Facts are stubborn things, and whatever our wishes, inclinations or precepts of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. Let’s take a look at the facts, okay, ”he said.
Except that it was not Thomas Jefferson who (not “that”) made these remarks. It was John Adams.
In Cawthorn’s defense, he was home schooled for most of his life and only completed one semester in college, where he maintained a D average. And his best employee, William “Blake” Harp, has no government experience, and virtually no work experience other than a gig at a fireworks booth in Texas.
This isn’t the first time the young lawmaker, who lied about the 2014 car crash that left him partially paralyzed, has been wrong about the background information on American history either. In the past, he has wrongly claimed that James Madison signed the Declaration of Independence, and he has wrongly claimed that Congress voted for Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.
Here’s what Twitter has to say about it all …
Madison Cawthorn learns this morning that, yes, the facts are indeed stubborn things.

Madison Cawthorn: It was Benjamin Franklin who said, “Woah, we’re halfway there. Woah, I live on a prayer. Take my hand, we’ll make it, I swear. Woah, live on a prayer.

Madison Cawthorn falsely claimed that James Madison signed the Declaration of Independence, Congress voted for Abraham Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, and Thomas Jefferson said “facts are stubborn things.”
He really needs to take a history book

Madison Cawthorn getting verified by Twitter while talking on the house floor is a treat that I will enjoy for years to come.
This is also what happens when you hire a friend to work in your office without any government experience.

Madison Cawthorn: It was Teddy Roosevelt who said: “When I find myself in difficult times, Mother Mary comforts me by speaking words of wisdom, whatever” 🙄😀

Honestly, his “communications” team is doing him no favors and could really hate / hate him. A bit like Meghan McCains’ hairdresser.
