Amid Caitlyn Jenner’s disastrous appearance at CPAC this weekend, in which attendees heckled her and dubbed her, Jenner suddenly found an unlikely advocate: transphobic expert Tomi Lahren.
Jenner, 71, attended CPAC as part of his ongoing campaign to topple California Governor Gavin Newsom in a recall election in September. While attending the conference, a YouTube user chased Jenner into the lobby of the Dallas Hilton Anatole hotel, shouting transphobic rhetoric. The user, identified as “the conservative black preacher,” also shouted questions about Jesus and referred to Jenner by his death name.
Now, perhaps in an attempt to prove the adage that politics create weird bedfellows, Jenner has won an unlikely defender in Tomi Lahren. Lahren took to Twitter on July 11 to condemn Jenner’s treatment at CPAC.

“The attacks on @Caitlyn_Jenner are despicable,” Lahren tweeted. “I’m going to fight for it every time and if you want to take my ‘conservative’ card for it, take it and push it. Your crowd is no better than the one on the left, and in fact, it’s uglier.

Notice how Lahren couldn’t resist the opportunity to dig into the left, which has long been an advocate for transgender rights.
Lahren’s comments also contrast with previous statements she has made about transgender people. In May 2019, Lahren attacked an advertisement for Gillette shaving products featuring a transgender teenager.

Previously, Lahren had also supported Donald Trump’s ban on transgender troops in the US military and supported the overthrow of Obama-era policies that protected transgender students in schools.
It is also not the first time that Lahren has made somewhat contradictory statements regarding gay rights. Previously, she had criticized President Barack Obama for mentioning marriage equality in a speech, but later endorsed marriage equality herself. She also attacked the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) before admitting that she profited from the law by staying on her parents’ health insurance.
