PARK CHAN-WOOK BIOGRAPHY
Director and screenwriter. The passion for cinema, according to what he himself tells, was born at the end of high school thanks to Hitchcock’s film “The woman who lived twice”. After studying Philosophy at Sogang University in Seoul, where he founded the ‘Movie Gang’ film club and wrote several essays and articles on film theory and criticism, at the end of the 1980s he began working in the cinema with various duties. In 1992 he made his debut behind the camera with “Moon Is the Sun’s Dream”, which he also wrote, in 1997 he made “Trio”, but it was only in 2000 that he managed to get noticed by audiences and critics with his third film, ” Joint Security Area “, presented at the 51st Berlinale, which achieved great success with the public at home. The consents obtained allow him to carry out a project that he had been in the pipeline for years, the ‘revenge’ trilogy which includes the films “Mr Vendetta” (2002), “Old Boy” (2004, Grand Jury Prize at the Festival of Cannes) and “Lady Vendetta” (2005, “Cinema Avvenire” and “Leoncino d’oro” awards in Venice).
