BIOGRAPHY OF PENN BADGLEY
Penn Badgley, born in Penn Dayton Badgley, was born on November 1, 1986 in Baltimore, Maryland, but following the divorce of his parents he spent his childhood between Woodlake, Virginia, and Seattle. It is in the latter city that the young Penn joins the Seattle Children’s Theater, immediately finding his professional path. Determined to pursue an acting career, in fact, at the age of 11 he moved to Hollywood, but his passion for music and the consequent recording of a pop single in 1998 also dates back to this period.
Badgley’s beginnings are mostly as a voice actor, in the late nineties he lends his voice to video games Mario Golf 64 is Mario Tennis 64. His debut as an actor came in 1999 in an episode of Will & Grace, followed by other small participations in the series You become a mother (2000) and The things I love about you (2002). The most important role in these early years of his career is certainly that of Chance Chancellor in the sopa opera Fever of love (2000), which certainly does not guarantee him popularity, but allows him to win a nomination for the Young Artist Awards.
In 2001 he made his debut in the cinema as an extra in The Fluffer (2001), but the first significant performance on the big screen dates back to 2006 with My boyfriend is a bastard, where is the brother of the protagonist, the disputed Jesse Metcalfe. Meanwhile, the small television appearances continue and finally in 2004 the actor receives a new main role in the series The Mountain, but it is still far from the desired success. 2007 will be the fateful year of Badgley’s career (and life) with the entry into the cast of the successful teen-drama Gossip Girl, in which he plays the role of the intellectual – a little loser – Dan Humphrey, the only character of low social extraction among the protagonists. The role, which earned him five nominations at the Teen Choice Awards, finally allows him to achieve world fame and together with fellow adventure Blake Lively, Leighton Meester (with whom he had previously worked in 2007 in horror Drive-Thru), Chace Crawford is Ed Westwick will play in the series until the last season, which aired in 2012.
Thanks to Gossip Girl, Penn – on the wave of success – receives new film engagements: the thriller David’s secret (2009); the comedy Easy Girl (2010), in which is the love interest of Emma Stone; the dramatic Margin Call (2011), where he shares the set with Kevin Spacey. Named one of the sexiest men of 2011 by BuddyTV, the actor in 2012 receives his first starring role in the cinema, that of the late artist Jeff Buckley, in Greetings from Tim Buckley, a film that follows the journey undertaken by the boy in search of a father he has never known and will never know, but who has left him a great musical legacy.
The following years see him busy on the set of Cymbeline (2014), adaptation of Shakespeare’s Cimbellino, and as the protagonist of The Paper Store. These are titles that unfortunately do not allow him to show off, as in precedence, which, instead, will happen with YOU, Netflix series in which Badgley is the protagonist, the young Joe in love and morbidly obsessed by the blonde Beck.
