BIOGRAPHY OF RICKY MEMPHIS

Riccardo Fortunati, aka Ricky Memphis, is born the August 29, 1968 in Rome, precisely in the Monte Mario district. Determined to follow the road of the show, during the Eighties he changed his original name to the one we know him by, taking inspiration from the star Elvis Presly and alternating work as a manual worker on the stage of the Maurizio Costanzo Show. It is here that, presented as a “metropolitan poet”, he reads his rude and erudite verses in kissed rhyme in the manner of a forced Roman. Appearing in the same literary role also in some episodes of DeeJay Television, the character of the Roman poet hits the audience, who adore him, so much so that Ricky Tognazzi in 1991 he offered him a part next to Claudio Amendola is Gianmarco Tognazzi in Ultra, film with which he won the European Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Young Ricky made it, he achieved his dream and made his debut in the best way. In the same year he also receives his first starring role in Fists of anger (1991) of Claudio Risi, where he plays a boxer who does double duty as he waits to achieve his dream, break into boxing and win the regional champion medal; a character who seems to be retracing the path of Memphis himself and who, like him, succeeds in his desired goal.

Now paired with Amendola, the actor ranges in different genres, from the drama of Briganti – Love and freedom (1993) to thriller The escort (1993) again by Tognazzi and, finally, passing through the comedy of Carlo Vanzina with The legendary – Hunchback shot in Milan (1994). The role that gives him greater fame in these nineties, however, is that of the agent Remo Matteotti in Palermo Milan – One way (1995), detective film by Claudio Fragasso with Giancarlo Giannini is Raoul Bova, which will follow in 2007 Milan Palermo – The return. Directed for the third time by Tognazzi in Throttled screw (1996), Memphis in 1998 is one of the protagonists of the comedy We will hurt her so much and is in the cast of the grotesque The last new year of Marco Risi with Alessandro Haber, Claudio Santamaria, Marco Giallini, Monica Bellucci – he had already met on the set of The Mythics – and many others. 1998 is also the year for Ricky to make his TV debut in the miniseries Last, of which he is the protagonist together with Bova and to which he follows Last – The challenge (1999), both centered on the figure of captain Sergio De Caprio, known for having managed to arrest Toto Riina. The detective series seemed to be right for him and in 2000 he joined the cast of Police District), in which he will play until the sixth season in the role of Inspector Mauro Belli, one of the most loved characters by the Italian television audience. It is precisely on the small screen that the Roman actor manages to cover a vastness of characters, sometimes even contrasting ones: from the lawyer Claudio Bruni in the medical drama White crimes (2008) to one of the leading exponents of the criminal gang de The narcotics (2011).

In the meantime, his presence at the cinema has become less constant, but Memphis will return to frequently contaminate the big screen with his unbridled sympathy and his Roman accent since 2011, when he is one of the students whose diploma was canceled. Immature (2011) and Immature – The journey (2012) of Paolo Genovese, films from which it was taken Immature – The series (2018). (2014). On TV he is still struggling with his final exams with the TV series Night before the ’82 exams (2011) as the father of one of the graduates. Later he joins the cast of the third season of All crazy for love (2011) in the role of pediatrician Giampaolo, disputed by Martina Stella is Carlotta Natoli. In the meantime, continue to make the cinema laugh, before joining Elio Germano neither The last wheel of the wagon (2013) of Giovanni Veronesi, then Fabio De Luigi in Soap opera (2014), the year in which he was also nominated for the Silver Ribbons as Best Supporting Actor de The penguin move (2013), directorial debut of his friend Amendola. 2018 begins for the Monte Mario actor with a new comedy, Disconnected, in which he will have to deal with the absence of technology, but continues with the mammoth work of Paolo Sorrentino, the diptych Them 1 (2018) and Them 2 (2018), where he plays the enigmatic role of Riccardo Pasta.
