Rihanna has marched against anti-Asian violence and hate crimes.
On Sunday April 4, the founder of Fenty Beauty, 33, joined her assistant Tina Truong at the “Stop Asian Hate” rally in New York.
The “Umbrella” singer can be seen walking with a pink sign that reads “Stop Asian Hate” while being largely incognito, donning a black mask, baseball cap and large sunglasses, in photos posted by Truong on Instagram.
“This is what solidarity looks like! #Stopaapihate #stopasianhate #callitahatecrime, ”Troung wrote captioned a series of photos and videos.
“This cause has hit close to home because I am Vietnamese American and Rih is very vocal when it comes to raising awareness of injustices, national and global,” Truong said. USA TODAY in a report. “We’ve been to protests together before, so when we heard about this one we both felt compelled to take action again. There was not a second thought, we just waved and took to the street.
Troung also shared a video of a protester at the rally asking Rihanna for her Instagram handle, apparently unaware he was speaking to the famous pop singer.
In the clip, the stunned man asks, “Is that you?” and Rihanna laughs.
“When Rih gives you her IG handle but you think she’s trolling,” Truong captioned the video on her Instagram story.
The “Stop Asian Hate” rally in New York City was one of many rallies held to protest violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders after the shooting in Atlanta last month.
