BIOGRAPHY OF SERGEJ BODROV
Director and screenwriter. Father of director Sergei jr., Before studying screenwriting in the most important Russian film institute, the VGIK in Moscow, he attended the Institute for Energy for two years. Graduated from VGIK in 1971, he worked for three years as a correspondent for the periodical ‘Krokodil’. When he is not writing articles he enjoys writing, with some success, screenplays up to the early Eighties. He made his directorial debut, together with Amanbe Alpiev, in 1984 with ‘Sweet Dreams in the Grass’. His greatest success was in 1996 with ‘The Prisoner of the Caucasus’, which earned Bodrov, among other things, two nominations for ‘Best Foreign Film’ at the Oscar and Golden Globes, a European Film Award for best screenplay and the first prize at the San Diego Film Festival. In addition to directing, Bodrov also wrote the screenplay for most of his films. In addition, he is also a prolific writer of short stories.
