Bob Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman (Duluth, May 24, 1941), is an American songwriter and composer. Also distinguished as a writer, poet, painter, actor and radio host, he is one of the most important figures of the last fifty years in the musical field, in that of popular culture and literature. Most of his best-known songs date back to the 1960s, when the artist established himself as a key figure in the movement, the American protest movement. Songs like Blowin ‘in the Wind and The Times They Are A-Changin’ have become the anthems of the peace and civil rights movements. The lyrics of his first songs deal with political, social and philosophical themes, and are affected by literary influences, challenging the conventions of pop music and appealing to the counterculture of the time. Over the years Dylan has expanded and customized his musical style reaching many different genres such as country / blues, gospel, rock and roll, rockabilly, jazz and swing, as well as English, Scottish and Irish folk music.
