Chris Pratt is a famous comedian and actor known for his roles as Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation that aired on NBC since 2009 to 2015. He also stars in the 2015 comeback of the Jurassic Park, its fourth installment, Jurassic World. Before that, he had supporting roles in movies like The Five-Year Engagement, Jennifer’s Body, and Zero Dark Thirty among other films. His first lead roles were in The Lego Movie and The Guardian of the Galaxy to which he made heavy preparations for the role. His acting skills were recognized in the Critics’ Choice Television Award where he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Aside from that, he was also named as Time Magazine‘s one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He will reprise his character, Star-Lord in the second installment of Guardians of the Galaxy and in both movies of Avengers: Infinity War. On August 7, 2017, he has announced his separation from his wife of eight years. He has one four-year old son named Jack.

Early Life and Family

He was born on June 21, 1979, as Christopher Michael Pratt in Virginia, Minnesota, but he grew up in Lake Stevens, Washington. He comes from a bloodline of Norwegians that have lived in the United States for a long time. When he was in high school, he joined a wrestling tournament. He won fifth in the competition. He completed high school in 1997 at Lake Stevens High School. In college, he studied in a community college but dropped out halfway through the first semester. He was working as a discount ticket salesman and a daytime stripper at the same time during that time. He became homeless while in Maui, Hawaii, and slept in either a van, the beach, or in good times, in a tent. He only earned enough to get money for food, gas, and some supplies for fishing.

His mother, Kathleen Louise Indahl, is a Norwegian working at a Safeway supermarket while his father, Daniel Clifton Pratt, worked in a mine before he started remodeling houses. Chris has had a complicated relationship with his father. He described him as a “good problem solver—like, physical problems. He was good at building things with his hands. He could kind of fake it till you make it in terms of machinery and equipment—like, they would ask ‘Anyone at this site know how to run a Caterpillar?’ and he’d be like ‘Yeah, I do,’ and then he’d get in there and figure out the controls, confident in his ability to figure shit out as he went along.” He even said that his dad has brought him and his brother up in a way to make them tough, describing his dad as an “old school dad.” He said, “Like, if you have weak hands and you go try to do something, it’ll rip your hands up, but if you condition them to be strong you’ll get calluses and tough. I think we became that way because, in his day and age, that’s what men were. I think we both benefit from it now.”

But things changed for them when his father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Chris was 20 at that time. His father was already bad-tempered as it is and seeing his own toughness fade day to day has made him more ill-tempered. He said that his dad “lost interest in life” and did not want to take medication or therapy in any form. His father entered a center for assisted living where he spent the last ten years of his life just watching TV, especially those shows that had Chris on it. “When he lost his ability to walk he gave up on life. Men of his ilk are defined by their ability to provide physically for their family and when that’s taken away, that was a joke to him.”

His parents have already separated even before his father moved to the center. That’s what also made it harder for Chris since he felt like he was betraying his father when he spends time with his sister and mother instead of staying at his bedside. Though, his father “was too proud to show any appreciation if you went to visit him.” Chris’s father died in 2014 while he was still filming for Jurassic Park.

Personal Life

The death of his father took a toll on Chris, yet he had to keep it inside knowing how important his disposition was on the set of the film. He was in New Orleans at that time when the news made its way to him. Recalling the event, he said that he “got pretty angry and got drunk and almost got into a fight with a drug dealer outside of my hotel room.” To this day, he keeps the compass that he inherited from him. He says that it is non-functional but he still takes a look at it before deciding to use his phone instead.

So far, Chris has lost 60 pounds while preparing for Guardians of the Galaxy. He used to weigh 280 pounds before his diet. He has hired his own nutritionist, Phil Goglia, to have the right amount of calorie intake. He was given the 4,000-calorie diet and was told to drink plenty of water. “I actually lost weight by eating more food, but eating the right food, eating healthy foods and so when I was done with the movie my body hadn’t been in starvation mode.”

Relationships

Before his relationship with Anna Faris, Chris used to date Emily VanCamp, his co-star in Everwood. Chris and she played as siblings in the show. They got together in June 2004 and ended their relationship sometime between 2006–2007.

In the set of Take Me Home Tonight, Chris met Anna Faris who was then married to her husband, Ben Indra. They instantly developed feelings for each other despite Anna’s marriage to someone else. But, neither of them took action of what they felt at that time. They hang out as friends and Chris would openly talk about his sexual adventures with another woman with Anna. He said that he wouldn’t even bother cleaning up his place and keep his porn magazine when they stay at his place. In April that year, Anna separated from her husband.

When they started dating, Anna saw a framed African stick bug in Chris’s place and she almost cried because it was the first time for her to find a guy collecting dead bugs too. She also lied about wanting to go hunting with him just because she had a massive crush on Chris. They used to sex-text on Wednesdays but stopped it when she has almost sent a naughty text to Chris’s nephew.

Chris and Anna share a lot in common aside from living 20 minutes away from each other in Washington without knowing it. They both have scars on their left hand and they are both fans of Seattle Seahawks. Both their parents have multiple sclerosis too. With all these, Chris says that his relationship with her made him believe in “divine intervention and destiny.”

They got engaged about 7 months after they started dating. After Chris found out that Anna was divorcing her husband, he knew it was a sign that he is going to marry her. Late in 2008, he went down on one knee and popped the question. Shortly after their engagement, Chris started wearing a band too, saying, “She got one and I was like, ‘I want one!’” He brought her a new engagement ring and is bigger and said it was just fair because Anna had given him a tractor.

Marriage and Divorce

Anna and Chris got married in secret while in Bali, Indonesia, on July 9, 2009. During their wedding reception, there was a “pretty great” fist fight on the dance floor. He once disclosed that the best part of his 2009 was seeing Anna “with flowers in her hair, the two families coming together, heartfelt speeches—and a pretty great fist fight on the dance floor.”

In August 2012, they welcomed their first born and only child, Jack. The baby was prematurely born and Chris has said that this moment in his life had “really defined” his faith in God. Although raised as a Lutheran, he worked for Jews of Jesus but later became a non-denominational Christian. He said that upon hearing the prognosis of their baby they “prayed a lot” together. When Anna was giving birth, Chris was by his side crying the whole time. During the filming of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, he barely saw his baby. Coincidentally, Jack’s first sentence was “Dada’s working.” Anna and Chris shared eight years as a couple before their legal separation in 2017.

Chris announced on Facebook last August 07, 2017 his separation with Anna. In his official Facebook page, he said,

Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.

Anna has posted the same message on her Instagram account in order to share to her own followers their joint statement. No details have been disclosed as to why they have separated, but many people online have been saying that the real reason for their separation is a third party on Chris’s end. Neither camps of Chris and Anna have released any comment about this.

Before their split, rumors have already circulated online a couple of times that they were going through a rough patch. She responded to this in her podcast with, “I take pride in how great my relationship is with Chris, but having said that, of course, in this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in L.A. raising our child, of course, I’m going to feel vulnerable. It made me feel incredibly insecure.”

Career

His first stint in the entertainment industry is in 2000 when he played the role of Devon in the short film titled Cursed Part 3. He then took the role of Keenan in the 2003 film The Extreme Team. He has successfully made it to different films but has not booked a lead role. His big break came through when he starred in Everwood and Parks and Recreation for television, and Guardians of the Galaxy for the big screen.
