Just a few episodes after the show started it was pretty easy to see this 90 day engaged couple Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa were going to have difficulties ahead. In addition to cultural and language barriers, the couple also had family baggage to deal with.
This was complicated by the fact that they did not have one, but two small children together, in addition to pressure from Asuelu’s family to support them financially.
But can this couple stand the test of time? Here’s an update on their relationship.
In addition to the visa itself, the lives of Kalani and Asuelu were brought together in the most permanent way possible: they had children together! This means that no matter if Kalani divorces her husband, he will always be the father of her child.
But that’s not the only way Asuelu can stay in Kalani’s life if they divorce.
Kalani explained her situation to her family on the latest episode of Happily Ever After.
“I seriously think divorce is an option,” Kalani told her family.
Sadly, her dad, Low, is on the hook if that happens – because he signed up to be financially responsible for Asuelu during the visa process.
“Obviously when I got my dad to sign this I would have sworn on my life that we would never get a divorce,” Kalani said.
“I feel like I’m so in love with him and so wrapped up in our romance that we had at the beginning,” she shared.
Of course, there is a way for her to get around this: if Asuelu leaves the country.
“I hope that if we ever get a divorce, Asuelu will go back to Samoa,” Kalani said.
