BIOGRAPHY OF GIUSEPPE BERTOLUCCI
Director and screenwriter. He approaches the cinema in 1970 as assistant director for his brother Bernardo’s ‘The Spider Strategy’. He collaborates, always with his brother, on the screenplay of ‘Novecento’ and ‘La luna’. As director, he made his debut in 1977 with ‘Berlinguer I love you’, with Roberto Benigni, with whom he also shot ‘Tuttobenigni’ in 1986. Always inspired by the comic trend are ‘Camels’, presented at the 1988 Venice Film Festival and ‘Too much sun’ ( 1994). In addition to this trend, Bertolucci dedicates himself to the world of women with ‘Lost objects’ (1979), ‘Secret secrets’ (1984) and ‘The sweet noise of life’ (1999). In his career he has also directed numerous documentaries and television works. In 2006 he presented at the 63rd Venice Film Festival the documentary – which he defined as a ‘photo novel’ – “Pasolini next venturo” made using the still photos of “Salò or the 120 days of Sodom” and a long interview / conversation made by the journalist Gideon Bachman to Pasolini on the set of his latest film. He is president of the Cineteca di Bologna.
