Sydney Sweeney took to social media on Sunday May 10 to speak out about the recent cyberbullying she suffered regarding her physical appearance.
The controversy began over the weekend when numerous trolls began attacking the Euphoria star’s looks on Twitter, with one user calling her “ugly” and “Muppet” in a tweet that went viral. (The offending tweet has since been deleted for violating Twitter policies.)
“Apparently I’m all the rage on Twitter right now to be ugly,” said a tearful Sweeney in her brief live Instagram feed. “And I would never really do that. Like, never. But I think it’s really important for people to see how words actually affect people.
“I don’t know,” she continued after pointing out that she was just sitting at home watching TV with her dog when she saw online abuse was all the rage on Twitter. . “People need to be nicer on social media. Because it’s so fucked up.”

Following Instagram Live, fans rushed to defend the actress on social media. “Sydney Sweeney is crying live because people imply she is the only attractive cause of her breasts? I hate this app so much. Why are ppl bringing [people’s] body to speech as if it were a funny topic? Wrote a fan.
“Sydney Sweeney is crying live because some of you think twitter is mean girls in the movie oh wowwww,” another commented before adding, “Ranking faces and ranking bodies like ur in sim mode and they see that shit too yeah no it’s very sick. “
Pop artist and actress Bea Miller has also championed the 23-year-old, who has starred in A Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in addition to her role in the HBO drama. “Whoever made Sydney Sweeney cry is dropping your position, I just want to talk,” Miller tweeted, following his comment, writing, “we are marching at dawn.”
