BIOGRAPHY OF MATTHEW BRODERICK
Actor. Son of actor James and theater director Patricia. He began studying acting at the Walden School in New York. He gets his first part in the play ‘On Valentine’s day’ thanks to his father. He made his big screen debut in 1983 in Fortunately There’s a Thief in the Family opposite Donald Sutherland. He became famous in the eighties by shooting many iconic films of those years, including ‘Wargames – War Games’ (1983), a small teen comedy that met with great success, the famous’ Ladyhawke’ (1985), ‘A crazy day of vacation ‘(1986),’ Escape from the future – Danger Zone ‘(1987), in which he plays an adorable chimpanzee trainer for NASA. He then acted in 1987 also in Mike Nichols’ ‘Frenesie militare’ and in 1988 he acted alongside Anne Bancroft in ‘Friends, accomplices, lovers’. Later his career has a strong momentum due to the fertile collaboration with director Neil Simon which began on stage with the shows ‘Brighton Beach Memoirs’ (1982-83) and ‘Biloxi Blues’ (1988) which immediately became a film. In the nineties he starred in films such as ‘The Boss and the Freshman’ (1990), together with Marlon Brando, ‘The nuisance’ (1993), and in the sentimental comedy ‘Chronic Lovers’ with Meg Ryan. In 1998 he is the protagonist of the action movie ‘Godzilla’, while the following year he plays the role of Inspector Gadget in the film of the same name. In 2004 he is the husband of ‘The perfect woman’ aka Nicole Kidman in the Frank Oz film. The following year he danced and sang in the musical ‘The Producers – A gay neo-Nazi comedy’ which he had already performed on the Broadway stages. In 2007 he starred in the film ‘When everything changes’ directed by actress Helen Hunt, with whom he had had a romantic relationship in the past. Also with regard to private life, Broderick in 1985 is the victim of a car accident during a holiday in Ireland with his girlfriend of that period, the actress Jennifer Gray, in which the passengers of the other car involved, one woman and her daughter. Broderick, later relieved of any responsibility, breaks his leg in the collision. He also had a relationship with actress Penelope Ann Miller before getting married in 1997 to colleague Sarah Jessica Parker, who made him James Wilke’s father in 2002.
