BIOGRAPHY OF BRUNO CREMER
Actor. From an early age he had a great passion for acting and his mother pushed him to attempt an acting career. Moving to Paris to attend high school, after attending the Conservatory, he made his debut on the Parisian stages in “Robinson” by Jules Supervielle and in the following years he played plays by Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Jean Anouilh. His big screen debut took place in 1955 in Daniel Gélin’s “Long Teeth”, in which he appeared in a tiny, uncredited cameo. Two years later, however, he gets a small role in Yves Allégret’s “Godot”, in which he is alongside Bernard Blier and Alain Delon. Success came in 1965 with Pierre Schoendoerffer’s “317 Assault Battalion”, followed by René Clément’s “Paris burns?” (1967) and in 1968 “A killer per his majesty” by Federico Chentrens and Maurice Cloche. In 1969 he played Lamberti in Yves Boisset’s “The Private Venus Case”, based on Giorgio Scerbanenco’s bestseller; eight years later he is Manzon in William Friedkin’s “The Wages of Fear” and in 1987 he plays Jean-Claude Brisseau’s “Furore e scida”. In the meantime, after leaving his first wife, with whom he had his son Stéphane, future writer, in December 1984 he married Chantal with whom he has two other daughters, Constance and Marie-Clémentine. Since the nineties he frequents the small screen more assiduously and for three seasons lends his face to Antonio Espinosa, the unscrupulous businessman of “La Piovra”, while in 1991 he wore the role of Commissioner Maigret for the first time, the character born from the pen of Georges Simenon, who accompanied him until 2005, giving him true notoriety among the general public. In 2000 he published his autobiography, “Un certain jeune homme”. He died at the age of 80 of a tumor he had been ill for some time.
