BIOGRAPHY OF EMMANUELLE DEVOS
Actress. She was born into a family dedicated to the dramatic arts and developed a visceral love for acting from an early age. Daughter of the actress Maria Henriau, as a child she follows her mother to the workplace, breathing the air of the set from which she will never be able to part. And to strengthen her passion will also be the vision, still a child, of the film “Lumière: Scenes of a friendship between women” (1975) with Jeanne Moreau. For this reason, as soon as he finishes high school, he enrolls in the most important film school in Paris, La Femis, where, by attending courses and workshops, he has the opportunity to meet and relate to people who share his same path. In particular she is very close to the artists Noémie Lvovsky – and for her he stars in her first short film, “Dis-moi oui, dis-moi non” (1989) – and Arnaud Desplechin, thanks to whom she gets her first gig in a 1991, “La vie des morts”, where he has the opportunity to act alongside Moreau. The artistic partnership with Desplechin continues with the following film “Le Sentinelle” (1992) and translates into a great and lasting mutual esteem and working continuity. It will have to wait until 2001 to be known to the international public, thanks to the film “On my lips” by Jacques Audiard, in which he plays alongside Vincent Cassel. And the role of Carla, a real estate secretary who changes her life following the fortuitous meeting, also earned her the 2002 César Award for Best Actress. Her talent is demonstrated by her prolific activity, she is appreciated for being versatile and for being able to guarantee good performances in all the roles she plays, even to the less important ones. Her artistic consecration is consolidated with the role of the submissive wife of Clovis Cornillac in the film by Frederic Fonteyne, “Gilles’ wife” (2004), very appreciated abroad and thanks to which her engagements become more and more numerous. In addition to continuing the working relationship with his friend Desplechin, he meets personalities such as Emmanuel Carrère (“Suspicious love”, 2005), Anne Fontaine (“Coco avant Chanel – Love before the myth”, 2009), Amos Gitai ( “Plus tard, tu comprendras …”, 2008), Alain Resnais (“Crazy loves”, 2009). In 2009 she received a gratifying victory with the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film “À L’igine” (by Xavier Giannoli). Married to the French actor Gilles Cohen, in 2002 she supported the election campaign of the socialist Lionel Jospin, for the candidacy for the office of president. In 2010 she was called to be part of the jury of the Cinéfondation section of the 63rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
