BIOGRAPHY OF BRAD DOURIF
Actor. At the age of three he lost his father. He attended the Aiken Preparatory School in Aiken, South Carolina, where he was able to put his interests to good use: art and acting. In a short time, his artistic skills are particularly appreciated, but above all the incentive of his mother and her being a theater actress, spurred him to become a professional actor. While attending Huntington’s Marshall University, he trained as an actor with the Huntington Community Players. At nineteen, he dropped out of college and went to New York where he worked with the Circle Repertory Company starring in a series of plays on Broadway and Woodstock. In the seventies is also his film debut in “One flew over the cuckoo’s nest” (1975), by Milos Forman; a film that earned him a Golden Globe for Best New Actor, a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor and an Oscar nomination for the same category. Not trusting his sudden success, he returned to New York to continue acting in the theater and teaching acting and directing at Columbia University. In 1988, however, he moved to Hollywood. Here he reveals a marked ability to interpret characters suffering from psychic illness, disturbed or insane, as indeed he shows in the characterization of “The eyes of Laura Mars” (1978) by Irvin Kershner; John Huston’s “Wisdom in the Blood” (1979), counted among his best works, or “Ragtime” (1981), once again by Milos Forman. His career continues at full speed and he is also frequently hired for horror films; her voice in the original version of the terrible ‘Chucky’ doll in “Killer Doll” (1988), by Tom Holland, is known. However, after the eighties, the association with horror also ended and, of the subsequent interpretations, certainly noteworthy is his participation in the cast of the saga “The Lord of the Rings” by Peter Jackson, in the role of ‘Grima Vermilinguo’. Parallel to his film career, he has always carried on the television one which over time, however, has been fading. Among his most significant appearances, those linked to: “X-Files” (1994); “Star Trek: Voyager” (1996) and “Ponderosa” (2001-2002). To shoot “The Lord of the Rings” he had to completely shave his eyebrows. He got married and divorced and has two children.
