Courtney Love accused Olivia Rodrigo of ripping off the cover of her former band’s album.
On Thursday, June 24, Love posted a screenshot of a promotional photo of the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star posing as a crying beauty queen for her debut album, Sour.
“Find the difference! #twinning, ”Love captioned the photo, comparing it to the cover of his former band Hole’s Live Through This album in 1994. A Facebook user asked if Love was mad at Rodrigo.
“She didn’t ask. So a bit of both. I dig good manners, ”Love replied.
Another social media user said he believes this conversation shouldn’t focus on who did it best, but rather on women supporting women. “The younger generation is inspired by those who led the way,” they added.
Love replied, “May prefer whatever version of my idea she prefers. You’re lucky she’s been through the fire for you now and she’s the revolutionary that she is. Allow her life to be s. ‘incarnate and frail currently… Keep your ageist sexism to yourself here!
Both photos show crying beauty queens holding flowers, but Rodrigo’s was not used for an album cover. The majority of social media users agreed that this was a vague interpretation, if at all.
Rodrigo responded to Love on his Instagram post, writing, “Love yourself and experience this so much.”
Love apparently responded to Rodrigo’s message asking for flowers.
“@oliviarodrigo Olivia – you’re welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for deets! Can’t wait to read your note,” Love commented.
Earlier this week, Rodrigo’s team were accused of copying the aesthetic of indie rock band Pom Pom Squad. This followed a Twitter thread that went viral where promotional photos of the two artists were compared.
