BIOGRAPHY OF LADY GAGA
Lady Gaga, at the registry office Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was born in 1986 in New York from an American entrepreneur of Sicilian origins and a housewife of French-Canadian origins, both of Catholic religion. Shortly after learning to walk, write and speak, at the age of four she approaches the study of the piano, which she continues in the Catholic women’s college Convent Of The Sacred Heart, where she also attends the theater course, participating in performances such as “Guys and Dolls “and” A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum “. At thirteen he began to behave as an all-round artist, he wrote his first ballad and the following year he presented himself at the first open-mic evenings in the clubs of the Big Apple, even getting a small role in the episode “Little bosses grow up” de THE Soprano. At seventeen, having completed her high school studies, she was admitted along with twenty other candidates to the Tisch Scool of the Arts, where in addition to refining her writing techniques, she wrote compositions and essays on artistic, religious, social and political themes. In the second year of the course, however, he decides to abandon his studies and leave his parents’ home to try a solo career. Her father agrees to pay her a year’s rent, as long as she promises to go home if things don’t go according to plan.
In the summer of 2005 he took his first steps in a recording studio, to record two songs with hip-hop artist Grandmaster Melle Mel, included in the audiobook of a children’s story entitled “The Portal In The Park”. In the same period he begins to attract local attention to himself by launching the Stefani Germanotta Band, which is enjoying some success in the Lower East Side clubs. With the help of her boyfriend and talent scout Rob Fusari, she creates a new identity under the pseudonym of Lady Gaga: “Gaga means ‘crazy’ and Lady has so many different connotations,” she explains: “I think it perfectly sums up who I’ve become: from a former student of a private school to a frequenter of this trashy and glittery environment.”
His career seems to be about to take off in 2006, when the label Def Jam Records puts it under contract, but after only three months the executives decide to discard it. Destroyed and embittered, Gaga doesn’t give up: back home, she becomes a burlesque and go-go dancer, performing alongside drag queens and strippers and drowning her frustrations in drugs. In this period he knows Lady Starlight, with which he gives life to a duo, who in 2007 is invited to participate in the Lollapalooza and obtains a great success, making it clear that the new character created by Gaga, with a glam rock style with a pinch of pop, works. At the end of the same year Fusari encourages her to work with Streamline Records, which hires her as an author for Sony and ATV. He writes, among others, for Britney Spears, New Kids on the Block e Pussycat Dolls, and was later signed by Cherrytree Records. In 2008 he moved to Los Angeles and released his debut album, “The Fame”, which is followed by the “Fame Ball Tour” and the release of the single “Just Dance”, which reaches the top of the world rankings transporting her among the leading artists. In 2009, “Just Dance” earned its first Grammy nomination and became one of the best-selling singles in the world. The second extract, “Poker Face”, is an even bigger hit, with 9.8 million copies sold and a 52nd Best Dance Grammy win, in which “The Face” was awarded Best Dance / Electronica album. In 2010 she won eight of the 13 awards for which she was nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards, where she shows up in the now legendary meat dress.
The second world tour, “The Monster Ball”, is one of the highest paying tours of all time and precedes the release of her second album, “Born This Way”, of 2011, which sells 1,108 million copies in the first week alone. Due to a hip fracture, the tour is stopped early. The following singles, “Born this Way”, “Judas” and “Edge of Glory”, ride the wave of success of the previous ones, as well as “Marry the Night” and “You and I”. In the same year, Gaga is named the second most popular artist on the radio.
In 2012 Gaga takes a sabbatical, and then returns the following year with “Artpop“, which unfortunately does not receive as good reviews as the previous ones. In the same year, a side project with Tony Bennett, “Cheek to Cheek”, is released, from which “Anything Goes” and “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” are extracted.
