BIOGRAPHY OF JAMES GANDOLFINI
James Joseph Gandolfini Jr. was born in Westwood, in New Jersey, the September 18, 1961, from parents of Italian origin who gave him a strong bond with our country, which he visited regularly.
Raised in Park Ridge, began acting in school plays while in high school, then graduated from a communications science degree at Rutger University, where he worked as a bouncer in the faculty pub.
Friend of Bruce Springstreen and Rudolph Giuliani, self-defined “a 120 kilos Woody Allen”, James Gandolfini he came into contact with the world of professional acting in New York: “by chance”, he used to say when talking about how he became an actor.
His debut on the theatrical stage takes place in 1992, when he plays in a production of A tram called desire which saw protagonists Jessica Lange and Alec Baldwin. In the same year he appears in a representation of Harbor front and stars as Tony Baldessari in A stranger among us: however, this is not a real cinematic debut, having previously appeared in coem films Shock! Shock! Shock! and, not credited, ne The ultimate boy scout of Tony Scott.
It is however thanks to Virgil’s role in A life to the fullest, again by Scott, who gets noticed by the public and critics: that of a brutal gangster for whom the actor was inspired by an old acquaintance of his who was a killer. The film is followed by others such as Velocity Terminal, Get Shorty, The juror, 8MM: red light crime, and in the remake of The word to the jurors directed by William Friedkin, who soon established him as one of the best character actors on the square.
But it is in the 1999 that his popularity explodes thanks to the role with which he is still identified: that of the mafia boss Tony Soprano in the tv series The Sopranos, which lasted for six glorious seasons and which earned him numerous prizes and awards.
The television hit de The Sopranos however, it does not turn away Gandolfini from the cinema: the actor appears in 2001 in films such as The Mexican by Gore Verbinski, The Man Who Wasn’t There of the Coen brothers is Rod Lurie’s castle, in which he reads with Robert Redford.

To remember then the protagonist role in Welcome to the Rileys, his portrayal of Mickey in Cogan – Killing Them Softly and that of the director of the CIA in Zero Dark Thirty by Kathryn Bigelow.
His latest interpretations, released posthumously, are those of the romantic comedy Say nothing, which sees him in an unusually tender role, and noir Who is blameless – The Drop, taken from a story by Dennis Lehane where it is alongside Tom Hardy.
James Gandolfini in fact he died on June 19, 2013 in Rome, following a heart attack: the actor was on vacation in Italy with his family and waiting to go to the Taormina Festival that had invited him as a guest.
