BIOGRAPHY OF JAMES GARNER
Actor. He left school at sixteen to join the merchant navy. In the early 1950s he participated in the war in Korea, where he earned a medal. After a short period on Broadway he began working for television, achieving success playing the role of Brett Maverick in the series “Maverick” (1957). In the 1960s, success also arrived on the big screen with a series of films ranging from comedy (“Quel Certainly I don’t know what”, Make me a treasure place “, 1963) to drama (” Grand Prix “, 1966), from westerns ( “The Fastest Finger in the West”, 1969) to the war film (“The Great Escape”, 1963; “Wartime Time of Love”, 1964). series “The Rockford Files” (1974) where he plays the investigator Jim Rockford, a role that earned him an Emmy Award for best actor. Divided between cinema and TV, he is one of the best known and most loved actors in America. Among his films more recent include “Maverick” (1994) – in which he brought the character who made him popular on television back to the big screen – “Escape from the White House” (My Fellow Americans, 1996) and “Twilight” (1998). 2000, in his seventies, is alongside Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland in the film “Space Cowboys”, directed by Eastwood himself, present at the Film Festival but of Venice 2000. To those who ask him when he will retire, he replies “don’t even talk about it, they’ll find me dead on the set”.
