BIOGRAPHY OF PAOLO GENOVESE
Born in Rome in 1966, Paolo Genovese has a degree in Economics and Commerce.
He starts working in advertising at McCann Erickson Italiana, making commercials awarded at various national and international festivals. He was lecturer in “Technique and audio visual language” at the European Institute of Design. In the advertising field he has directed over three hundred commercials, winning numerous national and international awards. In 2003 he was elected best advertising director of the year by a jury nominated by trade magazines.
In the cinematographic field, in 2001, writes and directs with Luca Miniero the film Neapolitan spell, winner of a David by Donatello is two golden globes. Always paired with Miniero, in 2003, he writes and directs No message on the answering machine with Carlo Delle Piane, Pierfrancesco Favino is Valerio Mastandrea.
Since 2010 Genovese begins a particularly fruitful period by signing, annually, numerous successful comedies, winning a gold and two silver tickets: The Band of Santas with Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, Immature is Immature – The journey. In 2012 he created A perfect family with Sergio Castellitto, Claudia Gerini is Marco Giallini, with which in addition to winning the Ciak d’oro for best comedy, he is awarded by numerous international festivals and receives nominations for the David di Donatello, the Nastri d’Argento and the Globi d’oro awards. In 2013 writes and directs All Freud’s fault with Marco Giallini and Anna Foglietta, a film that met with great success with audiences and critics, entrusting the soundtrack to Daniele Silvestri.
In 2014 he writes and directs the play Have you ever been to the moon? The film is released in theaters in January 2015, the song of the film is written by Francesco De Gregori which won the Nastro d’Argento for best song. The film wins the Miami Film Festival.
Perfect strangers (2016) is his tenth feature film. The collaboration with the great Italian songwriters continues: this time the song of the same name is written and performed by Fiorella Mannoia.
