Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher stopped by Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast last week to offer unique parenting advice in their household: They only wash their daughters when they are visibly dirty.
The conversation began when Shepherd remarked during the July 19 episode that he and his wife Kristen Bell had stopped subjecting their own children to their nighttime bathing routine once they were a little older.
“This is how we feel about our kids,” Kunis agreed, leading Kutcher to explain, “Now here’s the thing: if you can see the dirt on them, clean them up. Otherwise, there’s no point. ” (Kutcher and Kunis are the parents of their daughter Wyatt, 7, and their son Dimitri, 5.)
Speaking about their own showering habits, both actors admitted that they refrain from using soap all over their bodies on a daily basis in order to prevent their body’s natural oils from being washed out.
“I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever,” Kutcher said. “I have a Lever 2000 bar that delivers every time. Nothing else.
“I tend to splash water on my face after a workout to wash off all the salts,” he continued, while Kunis added that she washes my face religiously ”two times a day”.
For its part, the star of Jupiter Ascendant has recognized that part of his hygiene habits can come from his childhood. “I didn’t have hot water as a kid so I didn’t shower much anyway,” she said. “But when I had kids, I didn’t wash them every day either. I wasn’t that parent who bathed my newborn babies – ever.”
