In two days, Addison Rae won and then lost a job due to social media scrutiny.
On Friday, July 9, the 20-year-old social media influencer-turned-actress revealed her new job to fans. She became a UFC reporter.
“I studied audiovisual journalism in college for a whole 3 months to prepare for this moment,” she tweeted alongside photos of herself with the UFC-branded microphone on a red carpet.
According to Distractify, she briefly studied journalism at Louisiana State University, before dropping out to become a full-time influencer. Social media users were not happy that she got the job despite her lack of qualifications and education.
“Wow. 3 long months. Must have been tough, you surely qualified,” wrote one Twitter user.
“We all know life isn’t fair, but bragging about not being qualified is a special level of deafness,” added another user.
While the majority of the reviews were negative, some people noted that others were constantly telling her to find a “real job” and she eventually did. Some also spoke of the fact that “life is not fair”.
Less than two days after her new job advertisement, Rae revealed that the social media backlash ended up causing her to be fired.
“Nvm [sic] you all got me fired, ”she tweeted.
We do not know who will replace her. However, Rae apparently scoffed at all the criticism. She even retweeted a tweet with a photo of herself that read, “Most hated UFC commentator of all time # UFC264”.
