BIOGRAPHY OF ADRIEN BRODY
Actor. Born and raised in the run-down Queens neighborhood of New York, he has a restless and rebellious adolescence. To save him from delinquency is the passion for acting. From an early age he loves performing at his peers’ parties as a magician and calls himself ‘The Wonderful Adrien’. Encouraged by his mother, photojournalist Silvia Plachy, he enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and then in the High School for Perfoming Arts. At twelve she is already on the small screen alongside Mary Tyler Moore in the sitcom “Anne McGuire” and in the film “Home at Last” by David Devries. At nineteen he moved to Los Angeles to try his luck on the big screen and in 1993 he landed a small role in Steven Soderbergh’s “Little Big Aaron” and was immediately noticed by critics. After a series of independent films, including William Dear’s “Angels” (1994) and Stephen T. Key’s “The Last Time I Committed Suicide” (1997), comes the big break with “The Thin Red Line” ( 1998) by Terrence Malick. The director chooses him for the role of soldier Fife, alter ego of James Jones, author of the autobiography from which the film is based, but during the editing phase all the scenes played by Brody are cut except for an intense, silent, look of fear. , without any jokes. For the actor it is a hard blow, in addition to the frustration of not seeing the result of his efforts on the screen, those six months spent on the set in Australia cost him the abandonment by his girlfriend and the danger of going out of his mind as a real soldier at the front, far from his country, friends and family. But his efforts were not in vain as Malick himself later sent Spike Lee the tape with Brody’s audition, and the director chose him to play Ritchie, the disguised punk unjustly considered a serial killer in “SOS – Summer of Sam – Panic in New York “(1999), a role that earned him critical acclaim. Now in the Stardom, offers arrive from the big studios, in 1999 he starred in “Liberty Heights” by Barry Levinson and in 2000 in “Bread and Roses” by Ken Loach, presented at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2002 Wladyslaw Szpilman is the musician who, thanks to his art, managed to get out of the Warsaw ghetto alive in Roman Polanski’s film “The Pianist”. Thanks to this role, in 2003 he won the Oscar and the César Award for Best Actor.
