BIOGRAPHY OF ALAIN CORNEAU
Director AND screenwriter. He studied in the USA at IDHEC and graduated in film and editorial direction. Before becoming a director, Corneau was a jazz musician. Later he was assistant to directors Costa-Gavras, Roger Corman, Nadine Trintignant, Marcel Bozuffi, Marcel Camus and Marcel Drach for a few years. In the meantime he has written screenplays, among which the best known is Nadine Trintignant’s “Defense de Savoir” (1972). His first film as a director was “France Société Anonyme” (1973) which was followed by many others. Alain Corneau occupies a unique place in French cinema. It is not possible to classify his films in any genre, indeed it can be said that they pass through all the main genres: noir, thrillers, musicals, historical films, adventures, comedies. This variety reflects his idea that one must always broaden the field of action and, at the same time, look at the work of other directors, since cinema is always a collective creation.
