BIOGRAPHY OF ALDO FABRIZI
Actor. She begins to make her way on the radio and in the magazine theater where she soon becomes one of the most popular “vedettes”. He made his debut in the cinema in 1942 with Mario Bonnard’s “Avanti there is a place”, in which he reprises a character from one of his sketches, playing the role of an unlucky ticket collector in love. International popularity comes with Roberto Rossellini’s “Roma città open” (1945), in the touching role of a heroic priest, Don Pietro, who is shot by the Germans. The actor was disappointed not to receive even one of the film’s many awards. On the other hand, he received two Silver Ribbons as lead actor for “Prima comunione” (1950) by Alessandro Blasetti, and, twenty-five years later, as supporting actor for “We were so loved” (1975) by Ettore Scola. In 1948 he made his debut as a director signing “Emigrantes”, then it was the turn of the successful comedy series “The Passaguai family” (1951), and the moving “Il maestro” (1958). In 1951 the interpretation of Brigadier Bottoni, antagonist of the thief Esposito played by Totò, in the film “Guardie e ladri” (1951) by Steno and Monicelli remains memorable. In 1964 he was defined by the Americans as “a comic genius”, after having successfully interpreted the role of Mastro Titta, in the musical comedy “Rugantino” by Garinei and Giovannini. Considered a gruff but benevolent type in the show business, he had an unconditional esteem for his friend and colleague Totò. He was married to the singer known as “Reginella”. His body weighed down by his love for good food was a trademark for him and in recent years, he had written a successful book dedicated to pasta, his great passion. In 1990 he received a David di Donatello for his career a few days before his death.
