BIOGRAPHY OF ANDREAS DRESEN
Director and screenwriter. Among the most important German directors, his films are placed between improvisation and documentary, but always with a very personal approach that reflects the German soul: alternating comedy and drama in equal measure, he stages beauty ” vulgar “and the bitterness of contemporary reality. His career as a director began in 1985, the year from which he made a series of short films, television series and films for the small screen, specializing in the documentary genre. Only after 14 years, in 1999, he directed his first feature film, “Nachtgestalten”, presented in competition at the 49th Berlin International Film Festival. The turning point, at an international level, took place in 2002 with “Catastrophi d’amore”, a film with which he obtained the Golden Bear at the 52nd Berlin International Film Festival. Over the course of his 25-year career he has received numerous awards, many of which for one of his latest hits, “Halt auf freier Strecke” (2011), winner of the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at the 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Protagonist at the Berlin International Film Festival since 1999 – the year in which he competes with “Nachtgestalten” – his films, from “Catastrophes of love” and “Herr Wichmann von der CDU” to “Willenbrock” and “Herr Wichmann aus der dritten Reihe “, were representative of each edition of the festival.
