BIOGRAPHY OF ANNIE GIRARDOT
Actress. While studying acting at the Conservatory of Rue Blanche, in 1949 he began performing under the pseudonym of Annie Girard in the cabarets of Montmartre and on the stages of Parisian magazine theaters with the company of Robert Dhéry. In 1954, having just graduated, she was hired by the Comédie Française and in 1956 her interpretation in “La machine àécrire”, alongside Robert Hirsch, earned her the enthusiastic praise of Jean Cocteu. In the early years of his career he alternated numerous radio and television appearances at the theater, until in 1956 he made his debut on the big screen in “Treize à table” by André Hunebelle, winning the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti. In 1960 he arrives in Italy to play Nadia, the woman who ignites the rivalry between Rocco / Alain Delon and his older brother Simone / Renato Salvatori, in “Rocco and his brothers” by Luchino Visconti. The film gets a resounding success and marks a turning point in his career and in his love life: on the set, in fact, he falls in love with Renato Salvatori and marries him two years later. Their love story is destined to last only a few years, but the two decide never to legally sanction their separation. In 1963 she was on the set of Mario Monicelli’s “The companions”, while the following year Marco Ferreri chose her for “The monkey woman”. In 1965 her interpretation of Kay Larsi in “Three rooms in Manhattan” earned her the Volpi Cup as best female interpreter at the Venice Film Festival. During the seventies she was alongside Claude Jade and Jean Rochefort in “La divorziata” by Serge Korber, she was next to Isabelle Adjani in “The slap” by Claude Pinoteau and in 1977 she was awarded the César prize as best actress for ” The case of Dr. Gailland “(1976) by Jean-Louis Bertucelli. In recent decades, noteworthy interpretations have diminished and in 1989 Annie recounts her life in the autobiography “Vivre d’aimer”. In 1992 she was President of the Jury at the Berlin Film Festival, in 1995 she was in the cast of “I miserabili” by Claude Lelouche while in 2002 she was awarded the César as best supporting actress for her role in “La pianista” (2000) by Michael Haneke, with whom he collaborates again four years later for “Caché – Nothing to hide”. In 2006 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but the news was released only the following year by the periodical “Paris Match”. In the same year the documentary “Annie Girardot, ainsi va la vie” by Nicolas Baulieu and the book “La Memoire de ma mere”, written by his daughter Giulia, born from love with Renato Salvatori, describe the illness and the background of the latest films. , during which he forgot his lines more and more often. She died at the age of 79 at the Lariboisièr hospital, where she had been hospitalized for some time.
