BAHMAN GHOBADI BIOGRAPHY
Film director. Born in 1969, he supplemented his income while studying on the radio. He made his first short films when he decided to join a group of young cinema amateurs in Sanadaj. He then moved to Tehran to study cinema but interrupted his studies before the end of the course. Between 1995 and 1999 he directed ten shorts that won numerous prizes in various national and international festivals. In 1999 he worked as Abbas Kiarostami’s first assistant director during the filming of ‘The wind will take us away’. He is also one of the protagonists of Samira Makhmalbaf’s film ‘Blackboards’. His feature film directorial debut was with ‘The Time of Drunken Horses’ (2000), winner of the Camera d’Or at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.
