Billy Eichner is working on not one, but two gay-themed comedies. In March, it was announced that he had already started working on Bros for Universal. This made him the first openly gay man to write, act and produce a film for a major studio. The romantic comedy is slated for release in August 2022.

Yesterday he told Deadline about another movie he is co-writing and playing. This one has just been recovered by Amazon.
The ex-husbands will look into the bitter divorce between two gay men who were once the posters of gay marriage, having been the first to marry in New York after the 2015 SCOTUS ruling.
The fictional story is based on an idea from Eichner, with veteran writer Paul Rudnick working on the screenplay.
The film will be produced by Eichner and Berlanti / Schechter Films (Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter).
“The concept of a great gay divorce comedy has been running through my mind for years and I can’t think of better collaborators than breakthrough producers Greg and Sarah, and a true icon whose work I have craved and admired. Ever since I was a show business-hungry young gay boy, the brilliant Paul Rudnick who really paved the way for me and many others, ”said Eichner.
“And now we have the perfect partners in Amazon, who have already shown enormous passion for this project. It’s a dream team. Now, LET’S GET DIVORCE !!! ”
The deadline says the film will follow Daniel and Connor as they navigate their epic and bitter legal separation. While the topic may seem a bit heavy, the outlet says it will be more of a War Of The Roses-style affair with a lot of humor to balance the poignant character.

Writer Paul Rudnick said: “As a longtime Billy Eichner fan, I was thrilled when he called me about this project. And when Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter got involved, I knew we were in the best hands possible. Ex-husbands have the potential to be extremely funny, emotional, and utterly delicious.
If those two major projects weren’t enough to keep him busy, Eichner would also have to star and produce Man In The Box, a biopic of gay TV actor Paul Lynde.
He will also soon be seen on television as Matt Drudge in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming third season of Emmy Award-winning American Crime Story: Impeachment, which deals with the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal.
