The #FreeBritney campaign apparently has a happy ending! Jamie Spears has reportedly stepped down as co-curator of Britney Spears.
On Thursday, August 12, TMZ obtained new legal documents which reveal that Jamie will step down from his role as financial conservator.
“There is, in fact, no real reason to suspend or revoke Mr. Spears as registrar of the domain,” the statement said. “And it is highly questionable that a change in restaurateur at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests.”
Despite the facts set out above, it looks like Jamie will be stepping down as financial curator of Britney and her estate.
“Nonetheless, even though Mr. Spears is the target of continued unwarranted attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continued service as a Conservative would be in his best interest,” the files continue. “So even though he has to challenge this unwarranted petition for his dismissal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the court and his daughter’s new lawyer to prepare for an orderly transition to a new Tory.”
Jamie is said to have degraded Lynne Spears for her minimal involvement in Britney’s guardianship and life for the past thirteen years. Jamie alleged that Britney was being manipulated by others and was also in financial pain and wanted to save her. He also noted that Britney was “in crisis, in desperate need of help” when she was placed in guardianship almost thirteen years ago. He denies ever forcing his daughter to do anything, including concerts, which Britney claimed in court testimony.
“Regardless of his official title, Mr. Spears will always be Ms. Spears’ father, he will always love her unconditionally and he will always look after her best interests,” the statement concluded.
Britney’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, told the outlet they were “happy” he chose to step down. Rosengart has promised that this fight is not over and that they will continue to examine Jamie’s past actions and how the Guardianship hurt Britney.
“We are disappointed, however, by their continued disgraceful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others,” Rosengart said. “We look forward to continuing our thorough investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears and others over the past 13 years as he raised millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to to take Mr. Spears’ affidavit in the meantime, rather than laying false charges and bashing his own daughter, Mr. Spears should step down immediately. “
